Our Approach to Community

Making the best fermented hot sauce doesn’t happen in a vacuum, it requires a community. We are blessed to be a part of incredibly vibrant communities. Their help, contributions, and wisdom have been instrumental to our growth and success.

For 2018 we are giving back and building our communities with a three-pronged approach.

Local Produce:

While the Red River Valley of North Dakota/Minnesota will never be known as a hotbed of spicy pepper growing, the land here is fertile. Through our time at the Red River Market in downtown Fargo, we have built relationships with many growers. The produce they bring to market is delicious, flavorful, and incredible. Making the best hot sauce possible, means using the best peppers available. Those peppers can and do come from here.

By the end of 2018, we hope, depending on how bountiful the crops are, to be 100% made with peppers grown right here.

That is not the easy way of doing things, which suits us fine, frankly.

We know our growers, we know their care and concern for their land. We know that everything grown from start to finish is done thoughtfully and with care. Every week during the market season we share a Saturday together doing what we love. This community is worth supporting, is worth working for, and most of all worth participating.

The Bakers Dozen:

We are donating a case (12 bottles) of hot sauce to a local food pantry for every twelve cases of hot sauce we sell. What we struggled with was whether we would tell anyone we would be donating. A big part of us wanted to keep the donations on the down low. However, as we worked through why we are giving, we realized that it is an opportunity to bring awareness and encourage community involvement in ending hunger in our backyard.

Food banks and shelters provide critical services to those in need. Life sometimes goes sideways, and we feel that in our nation, there is no justification for that to result in starvation or malnutrition. To quote one of our favorite movies:

We hope by sharing our sauces with those in need we can add a little brightness to what can be a very stressful and dark period. Food matters, it is a craft, a unifier, a vehicle for people and community to form around, it is humbling that we can be part of those meals, no matter whose table they happen on.


We proudly sponsor the Agassiz Athletics Kickball League; we also contribute to charity auctions and other events. Sure it gets our hot sauce out there to more people to see and try. Moreover, it gives us chances to share the joy we have gained from doing business and thriving.

Excited to Go Live

This adventure has been anything but slow. In June 2016 we decided our little experiment was good enough to become a business. Six weeks later we were selling our craft made, hot sauce, at the local farmers market.

Over that market season, we relentlessly experimented. We tried infused honey, then infused honey popcorn balls for Halloween. We dialed in our merchandising and booth set ups. We collaborated with a local brewery.

Through it all, we kept our hot sauces as the center of our attention.

We are excited to open our e-commerce store and share our sauces as far as wide as possible.
